Buying and assigning phone numbers in Talkdesk Express

Whether you want a local presence or a nationwide toll-free number, Talkdesk Express makes it easy to purchase, manage, and assign phone numbers - all from within the platform. Follow this guide to discover how to search for new numbers, purchase them, and route them correctly for inbound and outbound communication.

Step 1: Access the Numbers App

  1. Log in to your Talkdesk Express Workspace

  2. In the left-hand navigation menu, go to the Admin section

  3. Click on Numbers

Here, you’ll find all your existing phone numbers and can manage them or purchase new ones.

Step 2: Buy a New Number

  1. In the top-right corner, click Buy number

  2. Use the search tool to browse available phone numbers by:

    1. Country

    2. Area code

    3. Type (Local or Toll-Free)

  3. Select the number(s) you want and complete the purchase

  • Local numbers are great for building trust in specific cities or regions.

  • Toll-free numbers (e.g., 800, 888) make it easier for customers to call you at no cost.

Step 3: Assign Your Number

After buying a number, make sure it's assigned properly based on your use case:

For Inbound Calls and SMS

Assign the number to a Studio Flow to control how incoming calls and messages are handled:

  • Navigate to Studio

  • Choose or create a flow

  • Assign your new number to that flow

For Outbound Calls

Decide who should use the number to make calls:

  • Assign it to a specific user

  • Or make it available to all users

This gives your team flexibility in choosing the most appropriate caller ID for their needs.

Manage and Optimize

From the Numbers tab, you can easily manage your inventory - edit settings, release unused numbers, or reassign them as your business evolves. Talkdesk Express gives you full control over your U.S. and Canadian number strategy directly within the platform.
